Maple Class!

At Sutton-cum-Lound C of E Primary School, we believe every child deserves the very best start to their education. Our Early Years Foundation Stage provides a safe, nurturing and stimulating environment where children feel valued, develop confidence and become enthusiastic learners.

We recognise that every child is unique and learn best through a balance of play, exploration, practical experiences and carefully planned teaching. We build strong relationships with children and their families, helping every child to feel happy, secure and ready to learn.

We are committed to ensuring that all children are included, supported and challenged to achieve their full potential, preparing them successfully for Key Stage 1 and beyond.

Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised

Little Wandle is the phonics programme we use to teach children to read and write. Through daily, structured phonics lessons, children learn to recognise sounds, blend them to read words and apply their knowledge when spelling. Reading books are carefully matched to each child's phonic knowledge, and regular assessment ensures that any child needing extra support receives timely intervention. Alongside phonics teaching, we promote a love of reading through high-quality texts, stories and shared reading experiences.

Tapestry

Tapestry is our online learning journal used to celebrate and share each child's journey through the Early Years Foundation Stage. Staff regularly upload observations, photographs and examples of learning, giving parents and carers a window into their child's experiences and achievements at school. Tapestry helps us build strong relationships between home and school, while enabling us to monitor progress and celebrate each child's individual development.
