This short film offers an overview of the events that led to Britain declaring war on Germany in 1939. We hear from an eye-witness called Moya, who recalls practicing being evacuated and being issued with a gas mask the year before war was declared.

As a child, Ruth Rogoff escaped from Germany and arrived in Britain on the day that war started - 3 September 1939. In this film, she relates her childhood experiences and talks of her mother's remarkable courage. She begins by explaining how the German occupation of the Sudetenland led to her family fleeing Germany to the relative safety of Prague, Czechoslovakia.
